Foreign language lecturers

The Degree Programme (L-11) in Languages, Literatures and Intercultural Studies offers foreign language courses (9cfu) consisting of two integrated and compulsory components:

  • The main course, taught by the professor(s) in charge of the subject;
  • The language course (lettorato), conducted by Collaborators and Language Experts.

The main course, taught by the professor in charge of the subject, aims to provide students with theoretical tools for the study of language, including metalinguistic analysis in its synchronic and diachronic dimensions, as well as phonetic, morphological, syntactic, lexical, textual and pragmatic structures. It also explores different levels and registers of oral, written, and signed communication.

The language course (lettorato) focuses primarily on developing linguistic skills related to the comprehension and production of oral and written texts, in line with the entry and exit levels established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), as specified for each language in the Degree Programme’s curriculum. Assessment may include both mid-term and final examinations. Passing all the required language course (lettorato) components is a prerequisite for admission to the final examination of the main course.

To enrol in the English Language course, students must first pass a mandatory B1-level placement test. Information about the test is available in the “Degree Programme” section of the Languages, Literatures and Intercultural Studies website. For all other languages offered within the programme, no mandatory entry level is required.

Detailed information on the organisation and delivery of both the main courses and language courses (lettorati) is available in the relevant Syllabi and on the Moodle pages of each course.
