The course aims to train professional editorial translators capable of navigating current transformations in the publishing sector. Participants will develop advanced skills in translation, revision, and publishing market analysis, with particular focus on the impact of artificial intelligence technologies.
1. Learning objectives
The course will address the following topics:
- translation and revision techniques from different languages (English, French, Spanish, German);
- dynamics of the publishing market, with attention to supply chain, awards, book fairs, and business models;
- legal and contractual aspects related to copyright and the role of the translator;
- tools and strategies for the conscious and innovative use of artificial intelligence in editorial work;
- transversal skills for operating as “translator–agents,” able to collaborate proactively with editorial teams, authors, and publishers.
Knowledge, skills and competences:
- advanced mastery of translation and textual revision techniques;
- ability to critically analyse and contribute to discussions about the economic and cultural dynamics of the publishing market;
- knowledge of essential legal and contractual tools for the profession;
- competence in using artificial intelligence as a strategic support for translation and editorial production;
- planning and interpersonal skills allowing graduates to position themselves as professionals combining linguistic, editorial, and market expertise.
2. Course delivery
- Online (synchronous and asynchronous). Platform: Google Meet;
- Courses delivered in Italian. Additional languages: English, German, French and Spanish;
- Attendance requirements: 67%.
3. Duration
The course runs for approximately 4 months (February–June 2026), for a total of 114 hours of training activities (19 ECTS), structured as follows:
- Lectures and seminars: 60 hours
- Practical and laboratory activities (translation, publishing marketing, AI): 48 hours
- Final examination: 6 hours
ECTS distribution:
- Lectures: 9 ECTS (60 hours)
- Practical/laboratory activities: 10 ECTS (54 hours, including final exam)
Total: 19 ECTS – 114 hours
4. Assessment methods
Learning will be assessed through:
- practical translation and revision exercises;
- active participation in workshops, laboratories, and round tables;
- short project works completed during the professional training modules.
The mandatory final examination, held in person, consists of preparing and presenting a translation proposal accompanied by editorial materials, market analysis, and an economic evaluation. The presentation will be assessed by the course’s scientific committee.
