The graduation procedure

1. DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

To access the final examination (12 CFUs), students must have earned at least 9 CFUs in the chosen language or literature, or 6 CFUs in the chosen core or related discipline. If the thesis concerns a subject  not offered by the Degree programme, prior approval from the Dregree programme Board or the Teaching Committee is required.

For full details, see the Programme Regulation.

2. FINAL EXAMINATION

The final examination (12 CFUs) consists of a written dissertation and an oral defence on a topic agreed upon with a professor from one of the disciplines included in the study plan.

Students may apply for a thesis when they have no more than 36 CFUs remaining to complete their degree (excluding the 12 CFUs for the final examination).

Although the dissertation does not require original research, it must demonstrate the student’s ability to analyze, synthesize, and apply appropriate scientific methods.

The defence is held before a committee appointed by the Degree Programme Board. The final grade takes into account the student’s overall record and progress. Up to 4 points may be added to the final average, with 1 extra point for graduating within the standard three-year period.

Length: about 60,000–80,000 characters, including spaces.
Language: The thesis may be written in a foreign language studied in the programme (with an abstract in Italian), or in Italian (with an abstract in a foreign language).
